Buyers Tips

Before you ever officially begin the house-hunting process, you can save yourself a lot of stress and headaches by addressing a few important questions on the front end. More often than not, eager homebuyers venture into the Southeast Texas real estate market without ever thinking about what they really want.

Make sure you consider these important questions for real estate buyers before you head out “into the field.”
  • What is my budget?
  • How far am I willing to commute?
  • How long do I intend to live here?
  • How much house do I want (number of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.)?
  • How much house can I realistically afford?
  • How important is the architectural style and floor plan?
  •  Am I looking for a house that’s move-in ready or would I prefer to save some money and do repair work myself?
Once you start looking for houses, you’ll find that these questions – and many more that you never thought of – start popping up in your mind. If you choose to search for Southeast Texas real estate with Jerry Hughes, then your real estate agent will run through a list of these questions (and many more) with you before beginning.

What You Need to Do Before You Start House-Hunting

The buying experience will go much smoother for you if you start preparing in advance. Here are some things you can do to ensure that you’re ready to buy when your dream house in Southeast Texas becomes available:
  • Pull up your credit report with one of the three major bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian). Even if you know that you should have perfect credit, it’s essential that you check since credit errors can sometimes take up to 60 days to correct.
  • Next, start visiting open houses. We recommend attending a few open houses for homes that you have no interest in. Why? When you visit homes that you’re not tempted to buy, it gives you a good, unbiased perspective. Also, the more open houses you see, the more questions you’ll think to ask when you do find the right home.
  • Lastly, start saving cash for a down payment and for closing costs. You’ll want to have money that’s ready to go in the event that a piece of Southeast TX real estate pops up with your name on it!
