If you’re looking for a small, quiet town in Southeast Texas, then there are few better places to call home than Bridge City, TX, a community known for its rich history and ability to gather together during hard times.

Bridge City didn’t always carry its distinctive – and appropriately descriptive – name. Prior to 1938, the area was known as Prairie View, named for the gorgeous sweeping landscapes of coastal grasslands. However, in 1938, an event that would change the city forever began to take shape.

The Port Arthur-Orange Bridge, known these days as the “Rainbow Bridge,” was built over the Neches River. The cantilever bridge was built to have an incredible vertical clearance of 177 feet, tall enough to accommodate the US Navy’s tallest ship (at that time, the USS Patoka).

The gorgeous bridge rockets up from both sides of the river, forming a fine peak in the center. Bridge City, TX real estate owners are proud to have such a fine entryway into their beloved little town. The Rainbow Bridge isn’t the only entrance into Bridge City, Texas. It’s one of three entry roads (though all of them are bridges).

You might be surprised to know that Bridge City, TX wasn’t always a town. In fact, the city didn’t become incorporated until 1970. Over the last couple of decades, as the city has grown, Bridge City, TX real estate has become known as some of the finest in all of Orange County.

Bridge City offers plenty of diverse housing options. Single-family homes – both small and large – are scattered throughout the city’s 5.4 square miles. According to the 2000 census, there were 3,195 households in Bridge City. The vast majority of Bridge City households are married couples (62%), while another 22.5% were non-families.

Though Bridge City has many different types of residents, all are welcome. The city offers plenty of employment opportunities as well as community-centered activities. Of course, if there’s anything you need as a Bridge City, TX real estate owner that can’t be found locally, Beaumont, Texas is just a hop, skip, and jump away at 32 minutes. Driving in the opposite direction, you can make it to Port Arthur, Texas in just 18 minutes.
